Daylight savings to be re-introduced
Fiji get ready for daylight saving time.

Cabinet has approved the re-introduction of daylight saving in Fiji from the 29th of this month at 2am to Sunday 25th April, 2010 at 3am.

As in 1998 and 1999, the time throughout Fiji during daylight saving will be in advance of the standard time by one hour.

Cabinet based its decision on a submission by Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Sayed-Khaiyum said from the information available the implementation of daylight saving in 1998 and 1999 received very encouraging response from the people and the business community.

He said apart from availability of more daylight time for sport, leisure and shopping, the working people are able to spend quality daylight time in the afternoons and evenings with their family and loved ones, including engaging in healthy activities such as gardening or going for a walk.

Sayed-Khaiyum said in 1999, the Ministry of Labour reported there was an overall increase in economic activity and productive work as a result of daylight saving.

He said it would also be good for the tourists as they will have more daylight time for activities and shopping.
