The Crusaders have jumped to first place in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific points table after surviving a wild last quarter to hold on for a 31-24 win over the Hurricanes in Wellington last night.

Rob Penney’s men were reduced to 13 late after Ethan Blackadder and Antonio Shalfoon were sent to the bin.

It allowed the hosts to launch a comeback, reducing the margin to seven before having several chances at the Crusaders’ line.

Crusaders hooker Ioane Moananu scored a hat-trick, while James O’Connor and Chay Fihaki scored a try each.

Meanwhile, a 14-man Waratahs side held on to a 21-14 win against the Chiefs at Allianz Stadium.

Waratahs tries came from Triston Reilly, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii and Teddy Wilson.

The Waratahs are currently fourth in the standings with 21 points, while the Crusaders lead with 28 points.

Looking at the matches coming up today, the Blues will face Moana Pasifika at 4.35pm, the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua will meet the Highlanders at 7.05pm, and the Reds will play the Brumbies at 9.35pm.
