Crusaders hammer the Chiefs 39-17

The Crusaders have hammered the Chiefs in Christchurch earning their third successive victory of the 2021 Super Rugby season with a 39-17 win.

It was an emotional day, with a moment of silence paid in remembrance of the 51 victims of the mosque terror attacks that took place nearly two years ago.

The Crusaders scored five tries; through Leicester Fainga'anuku, a penalty try, Will Jordan, Whetu Douglas and Mitchell Dunshea, as Damian McKenzie and Etene Nanai-Seturo scored the two tries by the Chiefs.

The Chiefs got off to the start they wanted, with Damian McKenzie running into space on the right side of the field and driving his way through tackles to touch down in the second minute.

The Crusaders struggled with their discipline early but they are four-time defending champions for a reason, and before too long they were producing magic of their own.

This means the Chiefs losing run continues as they have not a Super Rugby match in more than a year.

The Blues will take on the Highlanders at 2.35pm today.
