Aman Ravindra Singh

The Suva High Court will give its judgement on preliminary objections filed by Lautoka lawyer, Aman Ravindra Singh on the 1st of April where he was to give his plea in a contempt of court matter today.

The contempt of court matter pertains to when Singh was found guilty for defaming Voreqe Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum where he had falsely claimed on his Facebook account that the two had orchestrated temple break-ins.

Singh was ordered to pay Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum $60,000 each within 30 days from July 24th 2020.

He was to also post an apology on his Facebook page and in all local daily newspapers and remove the article from his Facebook page.

He was also ordered to pay both $8000 as costs for the case.

Singh has objected on the grounds that the leave granted on 12th October, 2020 to issue committal proceedings has lapsed and the documents were not served to him personally.

He has been given time until next Tuesday to file his submissions.

Singh also told the court that he will not take a plea on the contempt of court matter today as he has made a submission.

He has also been granted by the court to personally collect documents from the lawyers of Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum. Meanwhile, Bainimarama and Sayed-Khaiyum's lawyer, Devanesh Sharma told the court that he was ready to continue with the trial today.
