Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent Salote Panapasa

The Pre-Trial Conference for former Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Senior Superintendent Salote Panapasa has been set by the Suva Magistrates Court and will take place at 11am on the 31st of October.

Panapasa appeared before Suva Magistrate Krishan Prasad.

The Prosecution had told the Court that they had not done Panapasa's PTC as the person handling the case had resigned.

Magistrate Prasad told the Prosecution that this case is urgent and set the PTC date on the 31st of October.

He then told both Counsels that he would only give 14 days after the PTC for mentioning.

The matter has been adjourned to November 11th for mention of a hearing date.

Panapasa has been charged with two counts of abuse of office and an alternative count of general dishonesty – causing a loss.

It is alleged that between 1st August 2023 and 30th October 2023, Panapasa allegedly committed an arbitrary act of abuse of authority, whereby she instructed Fiji Corrections Service officers to facilitate the use of building materials for her private residence.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges in the court hearing last month.
