The Sugar Cane Growers Council has welcomed the initiatives announced for cane farmers in the 2021/2022 Revised Budget.

Chief Executive Officer, Vimal Dutt says the government’s commitment to continue with the guaranteed cane price of

$85 is a genuine appreciation and dedication towards the sugar industry.

Dutt says allocations and arrangements in formalizing the lease survey cost, conversion of lease to best agricultural use would enable growers to diversify and maximize the use of land.

He says the increased subsidy towards fertilizer is a substantial support whereby growers will continue to pay $20 per bag of fertilizer despite increase cost.

Dutt says they all are aware of the global trend affecting importation cost of fertilizer raw materials and this is a huge relief to cane growers.
