Concerns raised on Police emergency response as drunk man tried to enter Makoi home

Concerns have been raised by a family in Makoi that was terrorised by an intoxicated man at their canteen, on the time it took Police to respond yesterday.

Police were called to Makoi where a drunk man was arguing with a canteen owner.

The man had come in to buy something and then accused the owner of selling him an opened packet.

An argument then started and the man tried to enter the house which is when the Police were called.

The canteen owner says that they called 917 at 8.33am but the Police did not get there till 9.01am.

However Police are disputing this as they say they received the report at 8.47am and quickly responded.

The family says the officer who took their call on 917 was also quite rude and threatened to hang up and not take their report.

They say 2 men and a young boy who were walking by saw what was happening and started throwing stones on the roof of the canteen and by the time the Police arrived at the scene the 3 that were throwing stones had already run away.

Questions are being raised on why there was a late Police reaction as the Police Mobile Unit is based near Makoi.

Police investigations continue.
