Concerns now being raised on COVID positive people moving around, loitering, people and some businesses not following protocols

People are raising serious concerns that COVID positive people are moving around in the community, there is increased loitering, people are not following protocols and some businesses including supermarkets are not following protocols like the adherence to the 50 percent capacity.

With hundreds of cases announced on a daily basis in the Central Division and the Health Ministry confirming there will be more cases, more severe cases and more deaths, people are fearing for their safety as many people are still not following the health protocols.

Reports continue to come in from some residents that people within even the lockdown areas like Qauia are drinking grog and mingling with positive patients, with many not knowing who is positive.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Doctor James Fong says unfortunately the Qauia residents keep moving around, the team has gone in and pleaded with them however there has been no effect.

COVID-19 positive people are also moving around and this is really concerning many people who are following the protocols.

We have received calls from Neisau Road in Caubati Housing, Muanikoso, Nakasi, and Kinoya. They say people are moving in groups, not wearing masks and are blatantly not adhering to the protocols.

Some people say people from different households are openly moving around without masks on the main road along the Suva Nausori corridor from early in the morning. Some concerned people are also worried about people loitering around in Suva City, Raiwaqa, Lami, Mead Road Housing, Nabua, Caubati, Muanikoso and Nakasi.

They are also calling for tough action against businesses and public transport drivers that are also not following the COVID safe protocols. When contacted, Acting Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says they are working with the RFMF.

Tudravu says they are doing the best they can but at the same time, people must and need to take ownership for their actions because they will only end up putting themselves and their families at risk of contracting the virus.
