People living along the coastal areas of the southern parts of Viti Levu from Natadola through to the Coral Coast to Pacific Harbour, Southern coastal areas of Mamanuca Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, the Moala and Lomaiviti groups, the Southern and Central Lau Group are being advised to be on high alert and take precautionary measures as coastal sea flooding has been forecast during high tides.

The National Disaster Management Office says the approximate time for the high tide is 6:05am tomorrow and 6:46am Tuesday.

The NDMO is advising people to heed advisories issued by authorities and to refrain from swimming, fishing or undertaking any recreational marine activity along these coastal areas as hazardous breaking waves and strong currents are expected to pose a risk to people's lives.

A damaging heavy swell warning remains in force and mariners are to listen to advisories issued by authorities as current sea conditions can be dangerous for small boats due to large waves and rough seas.

Parents are strongly advised to ensure their children are supervised at all times and must stay away from flooded coastal areas.

The public is also being urged to look out for members of vulnerable groups in their community and ensure they are safely evacuated from their homes, should the need arise.

Fijians in need of assistance to evacuate their homes can contact the Fiji Police Force and the National Fire Authority for assistance.
