Close to 3,000 tasked with gathering census data

After a span of 11 years, two coups and three postponements, a National Census will now be undertaken in September with close to 3,000 people working to ensure the Commission completes the task within the set timeframe.

The Census Commission has given themselves 1 month to conduct the National Census from the 16th of September to the 16th of October.

Data collection will be done at the same time around the country which will involve 40 Superintendents, 90 Area Coordinators, 1,920 enumerators, 475 supervisors and 200 GPS waypoint collection staff and 20 support staff.

This will be done over a two week period.

According to Director Census, Epeli Waqavonovono, in preparation for the 2007 Census, the country will be divided into more than 1,500 areas within the 'tikina' boundaries of the 14 provinces and Rotuma.

The National Census will begin on the 16th of September.
