While the timing of the Local Government Elections has changed, the work of preparing Fiji for its next national electoral event continues with full momentum.
The Electoral Commission and the Fijian Elections Office highlighted this while acknowledging the Government’s decision to hold Local Government Elections after the upcoming General Election.
The two electoral bodies say voter registration activities have now become even more important as the next General Election could be held anytime between 7th August 2026 and 6th February 2027.
The FEO says teams across the country continue taking voter services directly to villages, settlements, schools, tertiary institutions, workplaces and communities to ensure eligible Fijians can register, verify and update their details.
According to the FEO, more than 16,000 people have already accessed voter registration and awareness services since the YES Outreach Nationwide Voter Registration and Awareness campaign began on 4th May this year.
The FEO is urging eligible voters not to wait for an election announcement and is encouraging people to register and update their details early.
They say preparations for the General Election are already well advanced and include the recruitment of election officials, voter awareness programmes, operational planning, systems testing and stakeholder engagement.
The Electoral Commission and the FEO say they remain committed to ensuring the electoral process continues with professionalism, integrity, transparency and credibility while allowing all eligible Fijians to participate confidently in the democratic process.
