It is heartbreaking to see the impact that climate change has had on the village of Nacula in Yasawa and see how they have to undergo relocation due to coastal erosion.

This was stated by Nacula village representative Lavenia Naivalu who says it is also heartbreaking to see the rapid devastation caused by the abuse of resources.

She says climate change is one of the many challenges she faces as a community member living on the island and villagers are currently dealing with a shortage of water and coastal erosion caused by rising sea levels.

The district representative of Nacula states that they are now experiencing prolonged rainfall due to climate change, a situation they never encountered before and this has resulted in their root crops being washed out.

The mother of two says that her children now have to venture further from the village to catch fish, compared to when their elders used to fish right in front of the village back in the day.

She says this highlights the impact that climate change has had on their food sources.
