The Chinese Government will give a $300 million grant to the Fijian Government to facilitate road projects in Vanua Levu to help improve the lives of the people and enhance the economy.

Ambassador Zhou Jian says he is glad to be part of this project in helping improve the livelihoods, the resources and the income of the people in the North.

He says Vanua Levu has a huge potential, in terms of agriculture and sea resources that the government can utilize to get big returns.

When questioned if the Chinese Government is doing this to promote Chinese interests, Jian says actions speak louder than words and they are here for practical matters.

Jian says they are not here to sacrifice the sovereignty of a nation but to help in the development and well-being of Fijians.

Commissioner Northern, Uraia Nainima says they are grateful to the Chinese Government for the road projects and says people in Vanua Levu will benefit a lot from these projects.

Nainima says Vanua Levu is the biggest supplier of root crops and fish locally and given the massive landscape, the road projects will help boost the lives of people there.

Jian says they are waiting to complete the feasibility studies and will commence with this project as soon as possible.
