Looking back into history, when Fiji faced isolation and sanctions, it is China who stood by Fiji and supported it, and we uphold non-interference, and resolutely support Fiji in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests.
These were the strong remarks made by Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhou Jian during a media briefing today at the Chinese Embassy in Suva, as China and Fiji mark 50 years of diplomatic relations.
Ambassador Jian stressed that mutual respect and equal treatment are the foundation of the enduring partnership between the two countries.
Jian says China will always uphold the principle that all countries, regardless of size, must be treated equally in international relations.
He also reaffirmed China’s non-interference policy, saying the country will continue to defend international norms and support Fiji’s development path.
He says that China and Fiji have gone through a win-win war, referring to the shared resilience and cooperation between the two nations.
The commemoration of the 50th anniversary of China-Fiji diplomatic ties will be held next Saturday at Albert Park, where there will also be a series of live performances featuring an art troupe from China and Fiji’s own VOU Dance Group, which he says will include martial arts, acrobatics, magic, marionette shows, Cantonese opera, and various dance performances — including a 600-drone light show above the sea.
