The claims circulating on social media that the third suspect linked to the investigation in the death of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi is a police officer, are false.

This has been confirmed by Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu.

He confirms the third suspect was earlier taken in and released while investigators analyzed information provided during the questioning process.

This led to his partner being brought in to verify his alibi and other information.

Police say information also circulating that an individual who provided information regarding the case is missing is also false, as she is safe and well with her family.

Tudravu says a separate team from the CID is looking into the claims made of police involvement, adding all information shared through official reporting channels will be investigated.

He calls on the public to respect and trust the process of investigation.

Tudravu stressed if there is credible information regarding the involvement of police, it will be investigated.

He urges the public to remove the mindset that Police are protecting their own, and gives his assurances that the law will run its course and anyone found interfering will be investigated, charged and taken to court.

He has also dismissed claims that the investigation was rushed to appease the family and public, as doing so would impact the outcome of the prosecution process.
