A Child Safe Tourism Stakeholders Workshop which has the aim to facilitate knowledge sharing about responsible tourism and child safe guarding was held at the GPH today.

While speaking at the workshop, the Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Trade, Shaheen Ali says child safe tourism is part of the Fijian Government’s greater national commitment for the tourism industry.

Ali says the Ministry is currently leading a guideline that sets the Code of Conduct for tourism service providers.

Ali further says they have aligned their efforts to global standards, in line with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, and other best practices.

Meanwhile, speaking at the Workshop, the Australian Deputy High Commissioner to Fiji, Paul Wilson says it is heartening to see hotels filling up with tourists again.

Wilson says Child Safe Volunteering Hub funded by the Australian Government aims to support child safe guarding and the promotion of responsible tourism practices.

He adds it is about putting in relevant and practical measures to ensure tourism activities keep children safe.
