Chiefs want electoral system where they can hold the people they vote for accountable

Great Council of Chiefs Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says the chiefs have agreed with the people that they would like to see whatever electoral system comes into place, it's one where they can hold the people they vote for accountable.

While briefing the media after the presentation from the Electoral Reform Commission, Ratu Viliame says Justice Daniel Fatiaki and Dr Wardan Narsey talked about things that they've heard from the people and the messages they have been getting.

He says the Commission thought it would be in the chiefs' interest to hear what the people are saying.

The Chair says they also talked a little about how the constitution can be amended, but there was nothing new that they have heard before.
