Minister for Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka

Minister for Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka has confirmed that they will look into the issue regarding the lack of security checks when traveling out of Labasa Airport to ensure security is not compromised at airports.

Gavoka highlighted this as Opposition Group of 16 Bloc Member, Premila Kumar raised concerns in Parliament about there being a lack of security checks when travelling out of Labasa Airport while Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he has raised the same issue with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Civil Aviation.

Kumar says the same happens for Nadi and Nausori International Airports.

Speaker, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu had said drugs may be coming to Labasa, Savusavu, and Taveuni too as they do not have sniffer dogs.

While responding to questions by fijivillage News, Gavoka says this was happening under the previous Government and they will graduate away from this, given what they have faced in terms of security.

Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration Pio Tikoduadua had told fijivillage News that Fiji’s current laws are inadequate to deal with the drug issues and they are working on legal reforms to be able to write up the laws that allow the government to deal with these things decisively.
