Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry

Fiji Labour Party Leader Mahendra Chaudhry has released a statement and condemned the arrest and detention of FLP’s assistant secretary-general Taina Rokotabua and her partner Ben Padarath.

Chaudhry has questioned why was it necessary to make an arrest at night and whether it was to drive fear into the hearts of their young children.

He says Padarath was arrested on Monday night and Rokotabua was arrested late yesterday afternoon and taken away in an unmarked vehicle.

Chaudhry also asks why the use of unmarked vehicles when official vehicles are available.

He says if people have to be questioned, it can surely be done during the day in the presence of their lawyers.

FICAC says all details on Padarath and his charges will be revealed in the court case.
