Captain America: New World Order has officially changed its title to Captain America: Brave New World, as revealed by Anthony Mackie in a behind-the-scenes photo.

Captain America 4 is still on track to release on May 3, 2024.

Mackie took to Instagram to praise his co-star Harrison Ford while also sharing the updated title and logo as seen on the cast and crew chairs in the photo.

"When Harrison Ford tells you how kicking ass should look, you listen! LoL… Thanks for the on set wisdom and laughs my friend!" Mackie wrote in the caption of the post. "Can't wait to do it again… Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World in theaters May 3, 2024."

Marvel hasn't shared a reason for the title alteration, but it follows some controversy about the now-former New World Order title and its ties to an infamously antisemitic real-world conspiracy theory, with many fans objecting the use of the subtitle after its reveal at SDCC 2022.

However, Captain America 4 director Julius Onah says that the New World Order title referenced Sam Wilson and "the decisions he's going to have to make, and the situations he's going to be confronted with," noting "the world has changed around him and he's a changed man."

Captain America: Brave New World will follow on from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which saw Sam Wilson take on the shield as the new Captain America.
