Despite some skepticism from the public, the refurbishment of the CWM Hospital is steadily progressing, with urgent upgrades being made to several key areas.
This was shared by the Health Ministry as Minster Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu toured the hospital today, starting with the West Wing where the installation of a new lift is nearly complete.
They say he also inspected the recently renovated kitchen, which is still undergoing further improvements.
Team Leader Rup Mani, a long-time staff member with over a decade of service at the hospital, expressed satisfaction with the upgrades.
He says they are eager for the kitchen to be fully refurbished so they can give their 100 percent in food preparation, ensuring that food quality is maintained.
Senior Dietitian Shobna Shalini says there are some initial challenges in using the newly installed equipment, which includes a combi oven, three jacketed kettles, nine high-pressure burners, and a six-burner convection oven.
She says the refurbishments were long overdue and mark a substantial improvement to their work environment.
Dr Lalabalavu also visited the pediatric ward, where renovations are ongoing and during his inspection, he observed the newly installed steam sterilizer and reviewed progress at the Central Sterile Supply Department which is set to introduce a new electronic steamer soon.
He also visited the operating theatre, urging that renovations be expedited to ensure full utilization of the facilities.
The Ministry says currently, four of the eight theatres are operational, while work on the remaining four is nearing completion.
They add once these four theatres are finished, operations will be moved to those facilities, allowing renovations to begin on the others.
