Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says the Criminal Investigations Department has been directed to take over the investigations and look into the claims made regarding the alleged abduction attempts in Kalekana in Lami.

This comes after photos being shared on social media of a car that has been allegedly destroyed by some people.

He says initial information gathered is that the owner of the vehicle who is now admitted in hospital was in the area looking for a friend.

Qiliho is urging the public to report matters to police and allow them to conduct an investigation as any attempts or interference could jeopardize or be counterproductive to an investigation.

He says there have been incidents where citizens arrests have resulted in the successful outcomes of investigations such as the alleged attempted robbery case at Raj Pharmacy earlier this year.

However, the Police Commissioner says excessive force and the damaging of property could result in intervening parties being investigated if a report is lodged against them.

He reiterates if there is a crime trend that the public needs to be alerted of, the police will issue a public statement.
