Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters will be looking into the criminal element and actions taken that led to the incident where a man was found dead while in custody at the Savusavu Police Station.
The man was allegedly assaulted by a prisoner in the cell block on Tuesday afternoon.
Police say officers rushed the man to the Savusavu Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
fijivillage News had sent further questions to police however, they said they will be in a better position to release more information after the investigation is completed.
A team has been directed by the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew to investigate the incident.
