After 18 years, Burenitu Village School in Serua will once again participate in the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Tuckers Ice Cream Games next week at the HFC Bank Stadium.

Speaking to fijivillage Sports, Head Teacher Veleni Dakuwaqa says that since the school does not have a proper ground for training, he has been accompanying the eight athletes as they train along the interior roads in preparation for the long-distance events in the upcoming competition.

Dakuwaqa says the school made a special effort to bring the athletes to the HFC Bank Stadium today so they could experience what it feels like to run on a real track, as they have been training on the dirt road their entire lives.

He confirms that the athletes will take part in the 1,500 metres, 800 metres, 4x400 metres relay, and a field event.

The head teacher adds that the school is overjoyed because it has been 18 years since athletes from Burenitu Village School were last selected to represent Serua in the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Competition.

He says this achievement is a proud moment for the school, the students, and the entire community.

The Primary Schools Athletics Competition will be held next Thursday and Friday at the HFC Bank Stadium.
