The border between New South Wales and Victoria will be closed after a meeting between the states’ premiers and the Australian Prime Minister.
The announcement comes after about a week of calls for the border to be shut, following a significant increase in coronavirus cases in Victoria.
There are more than 500 active cases in Victoria.
The border will be closed from midnight tomorrow and the military is expected to assist with the operation.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews says permits will be made available for people who need to travel between the two states and a system will be set up to assist with people living in border towns.
Victoria recorded 127 new cases of coronavirus today after an increase of 182 new cases over the weekend.
