Brown marmorated stink bugs

The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji  has now cleared the threats posed to the Agricultural sector following the suspect infestation of several dead Brown marmorated stink bugs which landed at the Suva Warf from a Japanese car ship called the Morning Menad last Saturday.

Biosecurity confirmed that they were alerted on the matter before the vessel landed at the port and they had since done several rounds of inspection to ensure that no threat is posed on our Biosecurity.

Initially all the cargos was discharged from the vessel and kept at the wharf to allow inspection from the Authorities.

Biosecurity only happened to identify dead insects however the vehicles are now slowly given clearance for release to their respective companies.

The Brown marmorated stink bugs is not present in Fiji and is a major threat to Agriculture in terms of the damages it can cause to fruits, root crops and vegetables.
