Fiji Water Flying Fijians captain Tevita Ikanivere knows that leading the national side is not an easy task and he will need to fill the void left by former captain Waisea Nayacalevu in terms of leading the national side on the international stage.
Speaking from the team’s camp as they prepare for next Sunday’s July test against the Wallabies, Ikanivere says this is a huge role, a lot of expectations, as always, and big shoes to fill after Nayacalevu’s retirement.
Ikanivere says he is very privileged because he was the Vice-Captain alongside Nayacalevu last year and he learnt a lot from the former captain.
Ikanivere further says there is also a huge expectation from the public towards the team as they prepare for the upcoming test matches.
He says the players also have expectations of themselves as everyone is coming in to win.
He adds the team is here to win the next two test matches and they are going to do their best in the time they have to make that happen.
Ikanivere says every player in the Flying Fijians squad are professional rugby players, and they play rugby for a living, so it comes with responsibility to play for Fiji.
The Flying Fijians will take on the Wallabies at 3.30pm next Sunday at Newcastle International Sports Centre.
They will then play Scotland on the 12th of July at 3pm at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
