Bhawani Dayal Arya College

The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji says it could take up to 6 months for repair work on Bhawani Dayal Arya College to be completed.

The rooftop of a double-storey school block was blown away by Tropical Cyclone Harold.

Sabha Spokesperson Kamlesh Arya says Sabha representatives, the Principal of the school and the Asset Management Unit of the Ministry of Education had a site visitation at the school yesterday to reinspect and collect additional information in regards to the reconstruction of the damaged roof.

Arya adds the matter of reconstruction and funding and the timeline of getting the rooms available for use were discussed.

He says the timeline being set is between 4 to 6 months.

Arya also says they believe the Ministry of Education will fund the cost of reconstruction.

He says all the debris has been cleared through assistance from a team of soldiers from the RFMF.

He says the Ministry of Education has also approved a new classroom at an available site in between two buildings as this will ease the space needs for accommodating one of the two classes badly affected.

Arya adds alternative arrangements are already on board to accommodate other remaining classes.
