Injuries aren’t to be wished upon anyone but if there’s a silver lining in Beauden Barrett being sidelined with a shoulder compliant, it’s that All Blacks selectors will get another much-needed look at Damian McKenzie in the No 10 jersey.
And it comes in a pressure-cooker test in Perth tomorrow night, when the All Blacks must beat the Wallabies in front of about 60,000 fans to keep their Rugby Championship hopes alive.
Undoubtedly the best overall Kiwi pivot in Super Rugby the past two years, McKenzie was Robertson’s first-choice No 10 to start 2024, before failing to make a mark on the black jersey and relinquishing it to Barrett.
The All Blacks take on the Wallabies in Perth at 9.45pm tomorrow.
