Noelani Baselala was inspired by her brother, Philip Baselala, to participate in rugby and become part of the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s team.

Baselala says that 2022 was the year she ventured into rugby by joining the Lomaiviti Club.

She says despite her brother going through a lot due to injuries, it did not diminish her interest in pursuing her dream take up professional rugby.

The 17-year-old says that the guidance of the senior players in the team has helped to develop her confidence within the team

She further explains that she is now attending online classes in the afternoon, while during the day, she utilizes her time for training.

Baselala hails from Solotavui in Kadavu and is a former student of Adi Cakobau School.

Her message to every young girl who shares the passion to become a professional rugby player is to trust in God and work hard towards their dreams.

She wants to dedicate her debut to her parents, who are the backbone of her struggle.

The Fijian Drua Women’s team will take on the Waratahs at 3:35pm this Saturday at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
