Bail granted for Lautoka officer charged with possession of meth

Lautoka police officer, Henry Jacob Raju charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine has been granted bail by the Lautoka Magistrates Court.

Police say on 1st December at around 1.22am last year, Raju was arrested for alleged unlawful possession of 2 clear bags of methamphetamine (0.197 grams) at MT Khan Road in Waiyavi, Lautoka. The magistrate has granted bail to the accused with conditions of not to re-offend, not interfering with witnesses, surrendering his passport, not changing address, $500 cash bail with surety, signing at Lautoka police station every Friday from 8am to 6pm and not to enter Lautoka police station unless on signing day.

Deputy Divisional Police Commander Western Acting Superintendent of Police Mohammed Harif who appeared for the Prosecution had objected to bail, as it is a case of interest drawing lots of public interest.

A/SP Harif also informed the court that the prosecution had a strong case and if bail is granted, the accused will interfere with witnesses who are Police officers.

The case has been adjourned to the 18th of March.
