The Central Eastern Minibuses Association is asking why the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is taking so long to come to a decision on the Association’s submission to increase the Suva-Nausori mini bus fare from $1.50 to $2.20.

There are around 48 drivers under the Central Eastern Minibuses Association

Association General Secretary Yashwardhan Ram says they made a submission to the FCCC in 2020 and made another submission in February this year.

He says the FCCC made the decision to increase bus fare right after the Revised National Budget however calls made by the Minibuses Association have not been considered.

Ram is questioning why quick action was taken for the Bus Operators Association but not for them.

He says this is unfair.

Ram says their Association has been asking for an increase for over 2 decades now but nothing has eventuated and the fare has remained $1.50 from way back in 2000.

He has also revealed that some drivers have left the industry because they were not happy with the wages.

We have sent questions to the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission regarding the concerns raised by the Association and are awaiting their response.
