Arya Pratinidhi Sabha calls for stronger protection of places of worship

The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji has also strongly condemned the recent shameful and despicable act of sacrilege at the Samabula Shiv Temple and is calling upon the Government of Fiji to ensure that adequate protection is provided to all places of worship across the nation and to take strong measures to prevent such incidents from recurring.

Sabha President Arun Padarath says the deliberate vandalism of a sacred place of worship and the destruction of religious idols is deeply disturbing and has caused great pain not only to the Sanatan community but also to all peace-loving citizens of Fiji.

He says such actions are not only criminal in nature but also an attack on the fundamental principles of religious freedom, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence that form the foundation of our multicultural society.

Padarath says the Sabha stands in full solidarity with the Sanatan Dharm community during this difficult time and they express their heartfelt support and prayers, and call on the authorities to ensure that justice is delivered swiftly and decisively.

He says they commend the Fiji Police Force for promptly arresting the alleged perpetrator and urge them to conduct a thorough investigation and pursue the strongest legal action under the law.

The Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji is also appealing to all citizens to uphold mutual respect, religious tolerance, and harmony.

Padarath says it is our collective responsibility to safeguard Fiji’s unity in diversity and to ensure that no one incites hatred or division on religious grounds.

He adds let us all work together to promote peace, compassion and respect for all religious beliefs and practices.

Meanwhile, the suspect who allegedly entered and desecrated the Sanatan Shiv Mandir yesterday afternoon has been referred for a psychiatric evaluation.
