The Water Authority of Fiji says approximately 80% of areas in Nausori now have normal water supply while restoration in areas in Suva is at 50%.

The Authority says the mechanical and electrical team was able to quickly mobilise and replace the burnt automatic transfer switch ahead of schedule.

WAF says the team was able to restore supply into Waila Water Treatment Plant just before 8pm last night and this assisted with recovery in supply to the majority of Nausori and the Rewa Delta areas.

It says water supply has also been restored to areas feeding from Wainibuku and Tovata reservoirs.

WAF says dedicated teams are working around the clock to restore full water supply as soon as possible.

It says elevated areas may experience intermittent supply and this is due to usage and reservoir levels.

WAF is also urging customers not to tamper with fire hydrants, as this will greatly disturb restoration efforts.

It says 10 water carting trucks are currently assigned to provide relief to the affected areas.

The Authority further says they have deployed more staff to operate their phone lines which can be reached at 1507 and 5777 for water carting requests.

People contacted us to say that the helpline number 5777 is not accessible.

Some people say they called 11 times to check on water cartage to their area however there was no answer.

In response, WAF says their helpline has been getting a lot of calls and people are placed in a queue.
