Another son of NZ 7s rugby great Eric Rush is set to make his international 7s debut for the All Blacks Sevens this weekend in the HSBC Cape Town 7s.

24-year-old Rob Rush has been called up as an injury replacement alongside Fletcher Carpenter, and they will be replacing Andrew Knewstubb and Joe Webber.

Rob’s older brother, Brady, first represented the All Blacks Sevens in 2022 and was in this year’s squad for the Paris Olympics when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

While Brady was not named in the All Blacks Sevens squad for Cape Town, Rob has been added to the team.

Their father, Eric, was an iconic sevens player through the 1990s and 2000s, who also played nine tests and 20 matches for the All Blacks between 1992 and 1996.

The All Blacks Sevens currently sit in 4th place in the 2024/2025 HSBC Overall 7s Standings after a 4th place finish in Dubai last week.

NZ is in Pool D at the Cape Town 7s alongside France and the USA.

The Cape Town 7s will kick off this Saturday.
