People should expect more rain next week as another active trough of low pressure associated with tropical depression TD05F, is expected to approach the Fiji Group on Monday.

This will bring in occasional to periods of rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms to develop over most parts of the Group.

The Nadi Weather Office says due to the ease in rain for now but expected development from Monday, the Heavy Rain Warning has been downgraded to a Heavy Rain Alert.

They say a significant amount of rainfall was recorded at various places in the past 24 hours, ending at 9 this morning.

The Weather Office says over 200mm of rainfall was registered at Lodoni, Taveuni and Nabouwalu, and over 100mm was recorded at Suva, Nausori, Nasinu, Koronivia, Lomaivuna, Nairukuruku, Novalau, Levuka, Koro Island and Savusavu.

They add that due to the decreasing river level and expected ease in the rain, a Flood Warning/Alert was in force for low-lying and flood-prone areas adjacent and downstream of Wainibuka, Wainimala, Waimanu, Waimaro, Waidalice, Wainivesi and Waibula Rivers is now cancelled.

However, a Flash Flood Alert continues to be in force for low-lying and flash flood-prone areas across the Fiji Group.

They say in the meantime, a high-pressure system to the far south of the Fiji Group is directing a strong southeasterly wind flow over the country.

The Meteorological Office says a Strong Wind Warning is in force for the land areas of Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and southwest and eastern Viti Levu (stretching from Sigatoka to Rakiraki).

The strong winds over the land areas are forecasted to ease from Monday as the winds are expected to become north easterlies.
