The man accused to be linked to the circulation of Viber messages purporting to be the Commissioner of Police, asking for money, has been remanded in custody.
Hadyat Ali appeared in the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning, charged with one count of identity theft.
The prosecution objected to his bail, saying that this is a community and public interest case.
They say they believe if bail is granted to Ali, he is highly likely to create another account and continue to impersonate someone.
The case will be called again on the 9th of this month.
