Ali fronts court for allegedly murdering a woman and setting her house on fire

Shafil Ali who allegedly murdered a woman in her Tomuka, Lautoka home on Monday has been remanded in custody by the Lautoka Magistrates Court today.

Ali has been charged with one count of murder, one count of arson and two counts of criminal intimidation.

Charges were read and explained to Ali. The plea has been deferred.

The matter has been transferred to Lautoka High Court which will be called on the 12th of next month.

Ali allegedly locked his landlord inside her bedroom before setting the double storey house on fire and killed her two dogs as well.

Police had earlier said the man attacked the woman with a cane knife.

He had handed himself over to the Nadi Police Station after the incident.
