Agriculture exports have surpassed the $100 million mark – Dr Reddy

Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahendra Reddy says agriculture produce exports have now surpassed the $100 million mark.

While supporting the 2021/2022 National Budget, Dr. Reddy says agricultural output in 2020 increase by more than 90 percent when compared to 2013.

He says every dollar that is invested in agriculture provides a return of $9.

Dr Reddy further says they will continue to support agricultural growth and development so that while the sector grows people involved in the sector will also benefit.

He says the Department of Environment was able to secure more than $18 million over the last 24 months in external donor funds to support their biodiversity conservation and environmental support work.

Dr. Reddy adds last year they processed 212 Environmental Impact Assessments at the value of about $1 billion.

The Minister also says they also have secured funds to build 11 nature based sea-walls this year.
