Great news for those students who have graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry from the Fiji National University, as the Ministry of Agriculture is collaborating with the University and other key stakeholders to deliver the inaugural Fiji Veterinary Examination (FVE).

The Ministry says the Fiji Veterinary Examination has been specifically designed to enable graduates of FNU’s Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry programme to meet the internationally recognised Day One Competencies – a set of essential skills and knowledge required for safe and effective practice in the veterinary profession.

They say the Examination is a one-off assessment for FNU’s veterinary programme graduates.

It says the exam will be conducted over two months, from 14th July to 12th September.

The examination programme will include three weeks of refresher training to prepare candidates, a one-week study break, followed by Exam Paper 1 and marking, one week for Exam Paper 2 and result in finalisation with the Registrar, one week of practical training and two to three weeks of practical assessment, with FVE result finalisation in consultation with the Registrar.

Candidates wishing to sit for the Fiji Veterinary Examination must hold a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry degree from FNU, be recognised as a person of good standing under Fijian law, and have qualifications that are registrable under the Fiji Veterinary Surgeons Act of 1956.

The Agriculture Ministry says the examination will be conducted in English and will be offered only once, with no fees being charged for this examination.

They say this milestone event marks a significant step towards strengthening Fiji’s veterinary services and ensuring that veterinary professionals entering the workforce are fully equipped to meet both national and international standards.

It says the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, together with the Fiji National University and external partners, looks forward to the successful delivery of the Fiji Veterinary Examination and the positive impact it will have on Fiji’s agricultural and animal health sectors.
