Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Vinesh Kuma

Youths are being encouraged to take up farming and the Ministry is also working on programmes to enable more engagement from young people in the Agriculture sector.

Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Vinesh Kumar says they are beefing up efforts to enticing youths to come back into agriculture.

He adds these plans are being included in their budget submission as they look to retain as many people as possible in the farming industry.

Kumar adds that an area they are looking at within the whole agriculture sector is the introduction of innovative technology making farming more attractive as well as to increase efficiency

He says with the agriculture sector facing the issue of aging farmers and a labour shortage, mechanization is the way forward and will be included in their budget submission.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will announce the 2022/2023 national budget at 7.30pm on the 15th of next month.
