The death of ageing residents and children or grandchildren still residing in the residence is one of the challenges faced by the Nasinu Town Council in collecting rates.
This was revealed to fijivillage News by Nasinu Town Council CEO Felix Magnus, who says that there will always be challenges in paying rates because people face different challenges each day.
To rectify this issue, Magnus says they have a team on the ground doing house-to-house visitations.
He says these challenges allow them to set in place strategies whereby they go out to meet the residents and see what challenges the residents are facing that prevent them from paying their rates.
He adds that one positive thing about their strategy is that residents are now coming on board to the council to see that payment plans are done so that their rates are being paid.
