There are real concerns for Wests Tigers star Adam Doueihi after he was forced from the field in a scary moment against the Cowboys.

Early in the clash at Leichhardt Oval, the halfback attempted to make a tackle on a rampaging Jason Taumalolo and was immediately left dazed on the turf.

Former NRL player and commentator Andrew Johns says Doueihi gets his head on the wrong side here.

He says you don't want to put your head there when you're tackling anyone, let alone Jason Taumalolo.

After an extended delay, Doueihi was able to leave the field on his feet with the assistance of the Tigers' medical staff, sporting a nasty bruise next to his eye.

It was soon confirmed that Doueihi had failed his Head Injury Assessment with fears he had suffered a fractured cheekbone.

The Cowboys went on to win 34-28.
