Action packed schools competitions this year

Get ready for an action packed schools competitions this year.

Minister for Education, Premila Kumar says they are happy to announce the reintroduction of all competitive sports activities in this new academic year.

The Coca-Cola Games will be held from 7th to 9th July while the Deans, Kaji and Raluve finals will be held on October 8th.

Kumar says the past 2 years have been very difficult for everyone, including students.

She says they want students to get back to their normal routine as soon as possible.

Details of sporting events and COVID requirements will be announced by the relevant sporting bodies over the coming days and weeks.

The dates are as follows: 2nd July Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup

2nd July Fiji Swimming Association Fiji National Schools Swimming Championship

7th to 9th July Coca-Cola Games

5th to 7th October Fiji Football Association Schools Inter-District Championship for Primary/Secondary Schools

5th to 7th October Fiji Secondary School Hockey Tournament 8th October Fiji Rugby Union Kaji Rugby, Deans and Raluve Finals

3rd December Fiji Secondary Cricket Championship

The Education Minister says they encourage as many students as possible to take part in sports.

She says even if it is not competitive sports, students should take part in some form of sports and physical activity.

Kumar says in some schools, girls do not take part in sports or PE.

She says they want to urge all girls to take part in physical activities and sports.

Kumar says we should not feel that sports are only for boys.

The Education Minister says they want to inculcate healthy lifestyle practices in our children, especially with the rise in NCDs and other lifestyle-related diseases.
