Acting AG requests Seruiratu to refrain from commenting on COI report

Acting Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga is requesting Leader of Opposition, Inia Seruiratu to refrain from making comments regarding the Commission of Inquiry report, as the matter is currently before the court.

Seruiratu highlighted earlier that despite the COI’s clear recommendations concerning the Chief Justice, the Prime Minister has failed to exercise his constitutional responsibility to advise the President to suspend the Chief Justice pending the outcome of appropriate processes.

Turaga says any public commentary is inappropriate and undermine the independence of the courts and the integrity of the ongoing judicial process.

The Ministry is requesting Seruiratu to refrain from making further statements on this matter and to allow the judicial process to take its proper course without external interference.
