The Attorney General’s Chambers has been given time to tell the court of their position in relation to Richard Naidu’s contempt of court case.

The case was today called before Justice Daniel Goundar for the first time as the previous judge, Justice Jude Nanayakkara has resigned.

Justice Nanayakkara had found Naidu guilty of contempt scandalising the court.

The case was brought against Naidu by former Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

It was heard in court that the case is now back with the AG’s Chambers as the case was previously handled by Devanesh Sharma and Gul Fatima of R.Patel Lawyers.

Naidu’s lawyer, Jon Apted told the court that the AG’s Chambers has not received the files as yet and needs 3 weeks to get up to speed.

Justice Goundar says he wants to hear both parties regarding their options as the matter is at the sentencing stage.

Justice Goundar also commented that he is not personally interested in this case as he is not connected to anyone in the matter.

He also says that he was given the case through the proper procedure.

The case will be called on the 3rd of April.
