Minister of Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has advised businesses in Fiji to adopt a business model where they do not try to make huge profits on one sale.

Sayed-Khaiyum says this model is not being followed by a lot of businesses in Fiji.

While speaking at the re-launch of Bargain Box to Bargain Box Premium Store in Nausori, he says they are now seeing a regrowth and the re-bouncing of the economy where tourism numbers are restored quite rapidly.

The Minister adds that the figures released this morning, shows that 65% of the tourists that arrived in 2019, has already been achieved.

Sayed-Khaiyum says when a lot of tourists arrive in the country, many Fijians will be employed and more money in their pockets.

According to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics, provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for August is 70,110, and this is a decrease of 10.8 percent compared to July this year.

69,145 visitors came by air, while 965 came by sea.

The sea arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels (785) and 180 arrivals by yachts.
