The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji has made a payment of $85,500 to a victim of an employment accident in Seaqaqa, Vanua Levu.

Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji says the injured worker, Manoj Kumar was employed as a Machine Assistant.

They say the mechanical harvester was harvesting sugarcane at a farm when the extractor of the machine got jammed adding the driver of the machine instructed Kumar to clear the jam, and in the process, his left hand got trapped between the blades which resulted in traumatic amputation from the wrist joint of his left hand.

Kumar was advised to apply for compensation from ACCF since it was an employment accident.

ACCF says upon receiving his application and all relevant information, ACCF processed it in a timely manner and assessed his compensation in accordance with the Accident Compensation Act 2017 and Regulations.

Kumar thanked the ACCF team and said he was grateful to ACCF as he was not expecting such a quick turn around and such a large amount of money.

Kumar says he will use this money for his children’s education and to pay off debts. He is also preparing to go to India with this money for further treatment.
