Hotel workers that were made redundant are expected to be employed again for some time as a number of large hotels are planning on a soft opening during the festive season.

This has been confirmed by the General Secretary of the National Union of Hotel and Catering Employees Daniel Urai who says that a number of hotels are expected to open up again during Christmas and New Year.

Urai says this does not mean that all workers will be employed but those who do may work 3 to 4 days a week in that period.

He says the number of workers that will be recalled depends on the occupancy and they will be employed if and when the need arises.

Urai adds there are still around 100,000 people without jobs due to COVID-19.
