Nine police officers have been awarded certificates of commendation for a successful investigation, arrest and conviction of 15 people involved in a sedition case in Rakiraki.

These officers are Superintendent of Police Loraini Seru, Inspector Simione Tuivanuavou, Sergeant Suliasi Dulaki, Corporal Kiska Nana, Inspector Vilitati Bari, Retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Sevuloni Masitabua, Sergeant Amani Satuwere and two officers based at the Intelligence Bureau.

Chief of Intelligence and Investigations ACP, Biu Matavou commended the officers for strictly following the investigation processes.

Matavou says a lot of time and resources are injected into an investigation and cases are lost when investigators take shortcuts.

He says they cannot afford to do that because they are measured by successful prosecutions.

Matavou says when suspects are mistreated, it impacts the prosecution stages and that is why there is a need to strictly follow and adhere to processes.
